This information is for Areas at risk of flooding from groundwater in Hampshire.
Groundwater levels in Hampshire are significantly high and continue to rise following a wet December. Several communities across Hampshire are now experiencing groundwater flooding impacts including winterbourne streams flowing, flooding to land, roads and cellars, and impacts to sewerage networks. From today (21/12/2023) until Monday (25/12/2023), very small amounts of rain are forecast. The rate at which groundwater is rising should begin to slow during this time. Long range weather forecasting is difficult. There is currently an indication that unsettled weather will return to Hampshire between Christmas and early January. If heavy or persistent rain continues to affect Hampshire then groundwater levels will continue to rise and flood impacts could occur in all communities. We continue to monitor the forecast. Be prepared for flooding impacts to increase this winter. If you use pumps to help reduce water levels, please ensure they are operational. We will update this Briefing Note by Friday 19/01/2024.
